Blood Red Shoes are a raw, intense and unyielding rock duo based in Brighton, comprising guitarist and singer Laura Mary Carter and drummer and singer Steven Ansell. Formed in 2004, over the course of more than twenty years they have developed a distinctive sound that combines raw energy with melodic sharpness — a sound that is as dynamic as it is addictive when performed live.
Blood Red Shoes’ longevity is no accident, but the result of a rare chemistry: two trees growing in different directions, taking on different shapes above ground whilst their roots become entwined underground. That metaphor sums up well why the band has endured for over two decades now. Being together also creates tension; sacrificing much of your adult life to music creates a peculiar form of loneliness. The project was written, recorded, produced and mixed by the duo themselves — without a manager, A&R or external producer.
