Chappell Roan
Since the release of her debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess (2023), Chappell Roan has become one of the most successful new singers of recent years. Born Kayleigh Rose Amstutz on February 12, 1998, she comes from a strongly religious background. In her early years, she primarily listened to Christian pop music. From an early age, she felt the ambition to become a singer herself. At 14, she competed on the talent show America's Got Talent. In the years that followed, she posted videos on YouTube singing her own work and covers. These videos brought her initial recognition.
In 2016, she chose Chappell Roan as her stage name. It was a tribute to her grandfather, Dennis K. Chappell, who passed away that year. While her initial singles weren't successful, the young artist developed her unique, expressive singing style and an eccentric—and campy—image during this period, setting her apart from her contemporaries. Chappell Roan draws inspiration from vibrant artists like Kate Bush, Stevie Nicks, Ellie Goulding, Lorde, Lana Del Rey, and 80s pop icon Boy George. In interviews, the singer has stated that Rihanna, in particular, encouraged her to start writing her own songs, and that she is also a vocal admirer of Ariana Grande.
Her life took a turn in 2023 with the release of her debut album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess. A whole generation of young music lovers fell in love with the catchy pop songs, heavy on electronics, and the candid lyrics of a young woman trying to find her place in a turbulent world. She scored hits with songs like "Red Wine Supernova," "Good Luck Babe!", and "Hot To Go!". Her popularity further increased in 2024 by touring with the wildly popular singer Olivia Rodrigo. In April of that year, she graced the US bill at Coachella, where she made a stunning impression. The authoritative Rolling Stone magazine was therefore quick to conclude that Chappell Roan is one of the most exciting new pop stars of the moment.
