Ariana Grande had the makings of a star from an early age. The only question was in what capacity. In her early years, she initially focused on acting. In 2008, the American, born in 1993, already appeared on Broadway as a cast member of the musical 13. She later also appeared in several television series on the children's channel Nickelodeon. Despite all this success, music continued to draw her. Self-recorded videos of herself singing covers eventually landed her a contract with a record label, where her debut album, Yours Truly, was released in 2013. It was an instant success. Thanks to her charisma, her voice, and her refined blend of pop and R&B, she quickly became an international superstar. She was showered with music awards.
Her rapid growth became clear when she performed at the White House for US President Barack Obama in 2014. That same year, her new album, Yours Truly, hit stores, further refining the musical formula. Out of nowhere, it topped the album charts in most countries. Her The Honeymoon Tour took her to arenas worldwide. Her continued growth in her music was evident in Dangerous Woman, released in 2016 and accompanied by another world tour, a concert series that was cut short after a bombing in Manchester.
In 2018, the singer returned with Sweetener, another album showcasing her versatility and talent. In just a few years, the American had become an all-around superstar: a successful singer scoring hits and contributing songs to soundtracks. An excellent performer, but also a global citizen with outspoken opinions on current topics. She also frequently advocated for causes close to her heart. Thank U, Next was another smash hit. Three singles from it—7 Rings, Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored, and Thank U, Next—occupied the top three positions on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2019, something that hadn't happened since The Beatles held the top five spots in 1964. This further underscored her immense status as a singer and entertainer.
