While Tori Amos normally draws inspiration from being on the road, traveling from place to place, her musical journey suddenly came to a halt. The endless winter of lockdown took hold of her, causing her to grapple with a personal crisis. For this album, she drew from her deepest and most personal emotions. 'Ocean to Ocean' was written during Cornwall's third lockdown during the coronavirus pandemic. The album is a universal story about falling into the void and then reinventing yourself.
