The Last Dinner Party
The Last Dinner Party is one of the exciting new faces of the musical year 2024. Their debut album, Prelude To Ecstasy, will be released in February. It's a remarkably mature album on which the quintet puts its own unique spin on influences from artists like Lana Del Rey, David Bowie, Kate Bush, Fleetwood Mac, Roxy Music, ABBA, Queen, St. Vincent, and Sparks. The band will also be touring extensively in 2024, including a stop at the prestigious Coachella festival in California.
Band members Abigail Morris (vocals), Lizzie Mayland (vocals, guitar), Emily Roberts (guitar, mandolin, flute), Georgia Davies (bass), and Aurora Nishevci (keyboards, vocals) met during the many concerts they attended in the London area. They are especially popular at The Windmill in Brixton, a venue known for supporting emerging groups and artists.
The band was formed in 2021, initially as The Dinner Party. When it turned out that a jazz band already existed under the name Dinner Party, the word "Last" was added. Although the coronavirus pandemic initially made performing difficult, The Last Diner Party made their debut on stage in 2021. More performances followed. A buzz was building around the young and promising band in the British capital. Things were moving quickly. In 2022, they opened for The Rolling Stones at their Hyde Park show.
More performances followed in 2023. In October of that year, they played at Paradiso, Amsterdam, during the London Calling festival. That year, they also released their first singles, "Nothing Matters," "Sinner," and "My Lady Of Mercy." The Last Dinner Party gained further recognition thanks to performances on Later… With Jools Holland and the Graham Norton Show. This was the perfect lead-up to their debut album, Prelude To Ecstasy, which effortlessly lived up to the high expectations. The year of The Last Dinner Party was crowned in October with a new version of the debut, featuring an additional album with acoustic (radio) sessions and covers of songs by Sparks and Kate Bush, among others.
