Froukje
Froukje is a young singer who has made a spectacular breakthrough to a wide audience in a short time. Even before her debut album, Noodzakelijk Verdriet (Need Business Sadness), is released in early 2024, she will be performing at prestigious festivals such as Pinkpop, Pukkelpop, Best Kept Secret, Concert At Sea, and Lowlands. The singer has also received two prestigious Edison Music Awards for the two EPs she released in the lead-up to her debut. The quality of her songs and the candid tone of her lyrics are also highly praised.
Froukje Veenstra was born on September 4, 2001, in Nieuwkoop. She grew up in a vibrant musical environment. Froukje regularly performs with her father and sister, playing covers, among other songs. Her first single, "Groter Dan Ik" (Bigger Than Me), immediately garnered attention. The protest song about the climate crisis has been streamed 1.7 million times. Another crisis—the coronavirus pandemic—limited her performance opportunities for a while. Nevertheless, she can be seen at the Carré in Amsterdam as part of the Kaleidoscoop show, a show in which colleague Wende Snijders gives young talent a platform.
In January 2021, the EP "Light and Dark" was released, both digitally and on vinyl. Its success proved Froukje to be one of the most important new singers in the Netherlands. In April of that year, she won the 3FM Talent Award. In 2022, her second EP, "Uitzinnig," followed, which was again an immense success. It was also the year she shone at several Dutch festivals. A year later, she was chosen as an ambassador for Liberation Day, performing in Zwolle and The Hague. In early 2024, her debut album, "Needzakelijk Verdriet" (Need Business Sadness), was released. It was again a resounding success. Her debut reached number one on the album charts in both the Netherlands and Belgium. The message that pain and sorrow can also help us grow as a person seems to resonate with her many young fans.
