Winne
Winne is a rapper who put Rotterdam on the map as a breeding ground for hip-hop talent. He was born in Paramaribo on April 20, 1978, and moved to the Netherlands at a young age, where he grew up in the port city. After a long, quiet run, he broke into the hip-hop community in 2005 with the song "Top 3 MC." That same year, it was included on the compilation "Homegrown 2005." Shortly after, he found success again with "Pomp Die Shit," which made its way onto the compilation "What's Da Flavor?!." As a new talent in the hip-hop world, he was asked to guest with the band Opgezwolle on their Buitenwesten tour. In 2006, he also contributed the song "Volle Kracht" to Opgezwolle's album "Volle Kracht."
Over the years, Winne regularly appears in tracks by colleagues such as Lange Frans, Kempi, Extince, and U-Niq. 2006 also saw him sign with the leading Dutch hip-hop label TopNotch. A year later, the EP "Onoverwinnelijk" (Invincible) was released, featuring his breakthrough hit "Top 3 MC." In 2009, his proper album debut, "Winne Zonder Strijd," was released, albeit somewhat delayed. A remix of the track "Binnenvetter" was made with Akwasi, Typhoon, and Fresku. In the years that followed, he collaborated with various artists, including Henny Vrienten (Doe Maar) with "Vanden 1 dag Of 2" (32 Jaar), and Headhunterz with "Geef Acht." In 2013, he recorded the album "Great Minds" with colleagues Sticks and Jiggy Dje. He also founded his own record label, Couture 33.
All of this led to the release of his second album, "Oprecht Door Zee," in 2018, featuring guest appearances from Emms, Kempi, Fresku, and Feis, among others. It was another success, while with performances at Lowlands, Mysteryland, Noorderslag, and Solar Weekend, he had also proven himself at home on stage. In 2019, the albums "Winne Zonder Strijd" and "Oprecht Door Zee," along with his debut EP "Onovervinnelijk" (Invincible), were compiled into a now-collectible box set. Parts 1 and 2 of the albums "So So Lobi" were released in 2020 and 2021, again featuring a large number of his colleagues: Akwasi, Sticks, Broederliefde, Ella John, Sarita Lorena, Kleine Viezerik, and Zwangere Guy. In June 2024, both albums were released on vinyl as a double LP.
