Tourist LeMC
Tourist LeMC is the stage name of Belgian singer and rapper Johannes Faes, born on October 9, 1984, in Schoten. His birthplace is near Antwerp, and it is precisely this environment that plays a significant role in his later work. He even became Antwerp's urban troubadour. Musically, he draws influence from both hip-hop and the traditions of folk, reggae, and cabaret. He debuted in 2010 with "Antwerps Testament," showcasing his versatile talent. Tourist LeMC subsequently reached the finals of Humo's Rock Rally, while the single "Lieve Liefde Liefde" was picked up by the radio station StuBru – Studio Brussel. In 2013, the debut album was re-released by the TopNotch label, re-mastered, and featuring two bonus tracks featuring guest appearances from Typhoon and Sticks.
His second album, En Route, was released in 2015. The track "Horizon," featuring a collaboration with Belgian artist Wally, became a huge hit in Belgium in 2016, spending 21 weeks at number one. This success was perfectly followed up with his third album, "We Begrijp Mekaar." Once again, it was a collaboration that landed him a massive hit: "Spiegel," recorded with Belgian veteran Raymond van het Groenewoud, spent 19 weeks at number one in the Flemish Top 50.
Tourist LeMC continues to have the wind at his back. In 2019, he performed his first concert in a sold-out Sportpaleis in Antwerp. Two years later, he appeared on the TV shows The Voice of Flanders and Liefde voor Muziek. His new album Niemandsland was also released in 2021, featuring guest appearances from artists like Absinth Minded, Meskerem Mees, and Wally. His four albums to date will be collected in the box set "Tot Hiertoe" at the end of 2021. A selection of his best and best-known songs can be found on Onderweg. The 2024 compilation also includes songs he recorded for the show Liefde voor Muziek, covers of artists like Clouseau, K3, Suzan en Freek, Laura Tesoro, Regi, and Jasper Steverlinck. A representative overview that also opens the door to new music.
