The Teskey Brothers
The spirit of soul legends like Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett haunts the mix of soul and blues of the Australian The Teskey Brothers.
The Teskey Brothers fought their way to the top like so many Australian bands – from AC/DC to Wolfmother – had done before them: by playing a lot, wherever they wanted to be. In bars, at parties, or simply on the street. The band quickly made many friends with their energetic blend of soul, blues, jazz, and rock. The best of roots pop music, delivered with the enthusiasm of a young group of musicians. The lineup quickly settled around Josh Teskey (vocals, guitar), Sam Teskey (guitar), Brendon Love (bass), Liam Gough (drums), Olaf Scott (Hammond), Nathaniel Sametz (trombone), and Charlie Woods (trumpet).
After laying a solid foundation with their busy touring schedule, their debut album, Half Mile Harvest, was released in early 2017, and it clearly captured the energy of the performances. The album sold well, albeit primarily in their home country. However, the band was burning with ambition to conquer the rest of the world, which they did with their important second album, Run Home Slow, released two years later. Even better than on their debut album, The Teskey Brothers succeeded in blending styles into an energetic, exhilarating whole. The Teskey Brothers are thus an example of a band that harks back to the rich traditions of pop music and then creates something unique with it.
