Snow Patrol
Snow Patrol has enjoyed twenty years of success with melodic pop and rock songs featuring lyrics full of tormented romance, sung as only Gary Lightbody can. The Scottish-Irish rock band was formed in 1994. Their first performances generated a flurry of positive reactions, as did their first two albums. "Songs For Polarbears" (1998) and "When It's Over We Still Have To Clear Up" (2001) earned Snow Patrol enthusiastic reviews, though not yet the sales figures to match.
Everything changed when Snow Patrol signed with a major record label, releasing their third album, "Final Straw," in August 2003. The beautiful melodies and warm voice of Gary Lightbody were once again major attractions of the song. This time, they reached a wider audience. "Spitting Games" and "Run" became hits, and the band supported U2 on their Vertigo tour. Their success continued with their fourth album, "Eyes Open," featuring the instant classic "Chasing Cars." When the song featured in a pivotal scene in the popular TV series "Grey's Anatomy," the band even reached a worldwide audience of millions.
The band later toured as support for Oasis and Coldplay, while the albums A Hundred Million Suns (2008), Fallen Empires (2011), and Wildness (2018) added new chapters to Snow Patrol's success story. In 2019, the new compilation Reworked was released, after which the band toured again. Their eighth album, The Forest Is the Path, was released in 2024. The title refers to the theme of many of the lyrics: the journey is more important than the destination. Furthermore, Gary Lightbody, as always, broods about crumbling relationships and impossible loves. Snow Patrol itself has now shrunk to a trio consisting of the singer, Nathan Connolly (guitar), and Johnny McDaid (guitar, keyboards), but the music is as captivating as ever.
