Sef
Sef is the stage name of the Moroccan-Dutch rapper born on June 22, 1984, in Amstelveen. Over the past 20 years, he has become one of the most important voices in Dutch hip-hop. He releases work under his own name, with his group Flinke Namen, and with his extensive network of colleagues.
He first made his mark with the group Flinke Namen, which also included fellow musicians like The Flexican, Fit, and later Murth. Their work was initially released on various compilations. In 2006, Sef contributed to The Opposites' album RauwDauw with "Lovely." A year later, he recorded with the same group, "Me Nikes," which can be found on their album Begin Twintig.
It marked the beginning of a busy period in which Sef collaborated with artists like The Partysquad, Sjaak, and Dio. In 2008, Flinke Namen signed with TopNotch, where his debut album, Superstuntwerk, was released a year later. His first solo album, De Leven, was released at the end of 2011 and featured guest appearances from Willie Wartaal, MC Fit, Dio, Adje, Hans de Booij, and Faberyayo. His second solo album, In Kleur (2015), spawned the singles "Wakker" and "Ze Zeggen." Many of his friends and colleagues once again contributed: Willie Wartaal, Faberyayo, Dio, Willem de Bruin, Vieze Fur, and Jayh.
In the years that followed, Sef remained highly productive. Shortly before the pandemic broke out, his solo album "El Salvador" was released. He made another significant impression with the 2023 release "Ik Zou Voor Veel Kunnen Die Maar Niet Voor Een Vlag" (I Could Die For A Lot But Not For A Flag), in which he took aim at various societal ills. This fifth solo album confirmed his status as one of the figureheads of Dutch hip-hop. The album was therefore awarded the prestigious Edison Music Award.
