"Scherp De Zeis" is De Dijk's seventeenth studio album, appearing on LP for the first time. The title refers to death, a theme permeating the album. The death of Harald van der Lubbe, Huub's brother, and the much-lamented death of Solomon Burke, with whom the band had performed until shortly before, served as the main inspiration.
