Krezip
Krezip is the band formed by Jacqueline (vocals, piano) and Anne Govaert (guitar). The band was formed in Tilburg in 1997. Jacqueline was among the first students to graduate from the local Rock Academy, along with Danny Vera and Floor Jansen (Nightwish). Krezip's music is inspired by the pop and rock sound of the Belgian band K's Choice. The band name seems to be a random made-up word, while it's also an anagram of "peach."
In May 2000, Krezip released their studio debut, Nothing Less, which reached number one on the Dutch album chart. The young band's instant success was partly due to their impressive performance at the Pinkpop festival. The piano ballad "I Would Stay," recorded there, became a huge hit, spending three weeks at number one on the Top 40. The atmospheric video features footage of the performance. Almost overnight, Krezip became one of the biggest rock bands in the Netherlands. In 2002, their debut followed up with the album "Days Like This." Another three years and a label change later, "What Are You Waiting For" was released, featuring, among other songs, the song "Same Mistake," which was featured in the film "Het Schnitzelparadijs."
Their fourth album, Plug It In, was released in 2007, while a year later, Krezip provided the Korgis cover of "Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime" for the soundtrack of the blockbuster "Alles Is Liefde." The compilation "Best Of Krezip" was also released in 2008. Such a retrospective often marks the end of an era. In this case, quite literally, as around the same time, Krezip announced their disbandment. The band members wanted to explore their own paths. Krezip bid farewell to the public with a new performance at Pinkpop and two concerts at the (then) Heineken Music Hall.
The members of Krezip are indeed flying out. This includes Jacqueline Govaert, who releases work under her own name and collaborates with Arjan 'Ayreon' Lucassen, Armin van Buuren, Alain Clark and can be admired on the youth program Klokhuis. In 2019, however, the inevitable comeback was announced on the Dutch television program De Wereld Draait Door. That October, Krezip performed no fewer than three times at a sold-out Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam. That same year, they also released their first album in 12 years: Sweet High, followed in 2023 by Any Day Now. During the concerts promoting the latter album, Krezip was temporarily without drummer Bram van den Berg. In 2023, he temporarily replaced none other than Larry Mullen Jr. by U2. In May 2024, Music for Máxima, the soundtrack created by Krezip for the TV series about our queen, will be released.
