Kim Petras
Kim Petras is a singer born in Germany on August 27, 1992, but conquering the world from Los Angeles, USA. Her music is an accessible mix of pop, Italo disco, and dance music. One of her first big influences is Britney Spears. Later, Kim Petras reveals that she's also inspired by Lady Gaga, Kylie Minogue, Katy Perry, Cher, Madonna, and the Spice Girls. A lot of girl power, in other words. The media even regularly calls her "the new princess of pop."
In 2017, Kim Petras released her first single with I Don't Want It At All. More soon followed. She managed to reach a large and young audience through social media – especially TikTok –. Her songs also ended up on mixtapes, including that of Charli XCX. In the years following those first singles, she performed a lot and not much later her appearance graced the covers of the first magazines. Her real breakthrough came with Unholy, a 2022 duet with Sam Smith. It also earned her a Grammy, making her the second trans woman after Wendy Carlos to be awarded this prestigious music award.
Unholy was added as a bonus track to the album Feed The Beast, released in the summer of 2023. It topped the charts worldwide and launched the Feed The Beast World Tour. The album, with lyrics full of lust and heartache, was also well-received in the press, with her vocals receiving numerous compliments. The song "Alone" was released as a single, featuring "queen of rap" Nicki Minaj. To the surprise of her many fans, the album "Problématique" (2023) was released that same year. It was already scheduled for release in 2021, and a single, "Future Starts Now," was even released. However, it was shelved, to be released in 2023 in a revised version. Escapism is one of the themes. The album was partly created during the coronavirus pandemic. The song "All She Wants" features a guest appearance by socialite Paris Hilton.
