Helmut Lotti
Helmut Lotti is a Belgian singer who, in the 1990s, successfully bridged the worlds of pop and classical music with his successful album series, "Helmut Lotti Goes Classic." His steadily growing oeuvre demonstrates his versatility in virtually every musical genre. He also lends his voice to Latin, pop, world music, soul, swing jazz, and rock 'n' roll, among others. In recent years, he has astonished everyone by donning leather pants and venturing into the world of heavy metal.
The singer was born Helmut Lotigiers on October 22, 1969. Thanks to his mother's LPs, he became a fan of Elvis Presley. From his grandfather, the director of the Ghent Opera, he inherited a love of classical music. These would be key ingredients in the music for which he would later become known. In 1989, he participated in the TV talent show Soundmixshow, where he finished second with his version of "My Boy," originally sung by Elvis Presley.
This earned him a recording contract. In 1995, he made his breakthrough with the album Just For You. The success story became international thanks to the Helmut Lotti Goes Classic series, of which five volumes were released in the 1990s. In the decades that followed, more often thematically structured albums followed, such as Flemish Hits (2000), Latino Classics (2001), My Tribute To The King (2002) – an ode to Elvis Presley, The Crooners (2006), Time To Swing (2008), Faith Hope & Love (2015), and Soul Classic In Symphony (2018). In 2023, to the surprise of many, Hellmut Lotti Goes Metal – note the changed first name – was released, on which he also held his own among the heavyweights of the musical scene. A few months before the album's release, Hel(l)mut Lotti performed at the Graspop Metal Meeting festival in Belgium, where he convinced thousands of headbangers of his good intentions. It remains to be seen what his next musical surprise will be.
