Greta Van Fleet
Every generation deserves its own rock heroes. For countless music lovers today, that's Greta Van Fleet. Yet, the American band also has fans among the slightly older crowd who remember the glory days of their idols, such as Led Zeppelin, Queen, Rush, and Aerosmith. Greta Van Fleet only needed one album to become one of the hottest bands of our time. Their flamboyant shows, filled with vintage hard rock in a trendy guise, do the rest.
When Greta Van Fleet broke through, the band's distinctly Dutch-sounding name was naturally the first thing that stood out. The quartet hails from Frankenmuth, Michigan, and consists of brothers Joshua (vocals), Jake (guitar), and Sam Kiszka (bass), plus Daniel Wagner (drums). There's no real story behind the choice of this unusual band name. Gretna Van Fleet is the name of a local resident and, after a minor adjustment—Gretna becomes Greta—is adopted. All with the woman's permission.
After a Having laid a solid foundation with a pair of EPs and a series of energetic performances, Greta Van Fleet burst onto the rock scene in 2018 with their debut album, Anthem Of The Peaceful Army. It emerged as a record full of heavy rock from the early 1970s. In its first week, it sold 80,000 copies in America alone, earning a respectable third place on the Billboard album chart. International tours more than lived up to Greta Van Fleet's reputation as the most exciting new rock band. The group continued to put its own unique spin on the vintage rock sound on their subsequent albums, The Battle At Garden's Gate (2021) and Starcatcher (2023).
