Brotherly love
Broederliefde was founded in 2012 in the Spangen neighborhood of Rotterdam by five school friends: Emms (Emerson Akachar), Jerr (Jerzy Rocha Livramento), Sjaf (Javiensley Dams), Edson (Edson Cesar), and Mella (Melvin Silberie). The boys initially set their sights on becoming professional footballers. When that proved too ambitious, music offered a more than worthy alternative. Broederliefde developed a unique sound, infusing hip-hop with Caribbean influences, reflecting the collective's Cape Verdean, Dominican, and Antillean roots.
In 2014, the debut album "Gestigig Feestje" (Sensitive Party) was released via Top Notch, featuring the hit "Lanta." It was the definitive breakthrough for Broederliefde, which gained additional prestige with an Edison nomination and the winning of several FunX Awards. This rise continued in 2015 with a fantastic follow-up to Hard Work Pays Off, which featured the hit "Alaka." This success was even surpassed by Hard Work Pays Off 2, released in 2016. It spent 14 weeks at number one on the album chart, making it the longest-running Dutch-language album at that position. This shattered Frans Bauer's previous record. The group's widespread support is evident in the 3voor12 and MTV Awards it won during this period, as well as performances at the Uitmarkt and Lowlands festival.
The Broederliefde story continues with the albums "We Moeten Door" (We Must Continue) from 2017 and "We Must Continue 2," released a year later. In 2017, Broederliefde played a home game, performing for 10,000 fans at the Kasteel in Spangen, the stadium of Sparta football club. In the following years, the albums "Broeder"—featuring guest appearances from Snelle and Candy Dulfer, among others—and "Medaille" and "Strandje Aan De Maas" were released. They were followed by singles like "Appel Mint Puur" and "Égalité." In the first months of 2025, Broederliefde performed throughout the Netherlands as part of the "De 1000th On Tour."
