"Brand New Life" is Younger's second album for Impulse! Records. She won the 2022 Edison Jazz International for her first album, "Somewhere Different." This album features original compositions alongside and closely related to a selection of interpretations of pieces by Dorothy Ashby, the jazz harpist who was a major influence on Younger. She herself represents a generation of jazz musicians who grew up in an era when hip-hop was a strong presence in American popular culture. On "Brand New Life," she infuses harmony, rhythm, and melody with influences from hip-hop, rock, and pop music.
