In juli 1955, op 19-jarige leeftijd, reisde Luciano Pavarotti naar Wales om deel te nemen aan het Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod. Deze muziekwedstrijd werd met afstand gewonnen door het koor waarin zowel Luciano als zijn vader zong. Later beschouwde Pavarotti dit als een cruciaal moment in zijn leven, waardoor hij een carrière als professioneel zanger begon te overwegen. Veertig jaar later, in 1995, kwam hij een belofte na die hij zichzelf en vele anderen gedurende zijn buitengewone carrière had gedaan: hij keerde terug naar Llangollen om een heel bijzonder concert te geven. Dit is de niet eerder uitgebrachte opname van dat historische concert, dat plaats vond op het hoogtepunt van zijn roem, vijf jaar na het concert van The Three Tenors in Rome.
