Philip Glass: For cello (LP)

The choice of La Vague by Jean-Michel Othoniel for the cover of this album is rooted in the affinities between the artwork and the musical world of Philip Glass. This monumental sculpture, composed of glass bricks, is striking both for its physical scale and its poetic power. Its colors continuously evolve with the changing light while its identity remains intact. This interplay between change and permanence echoes key aspects of Philip Glass's musical language, which is built on repetition, variation, and gradual transformation. The work’s hypnotic quality further strengthens the dialogue between the visual and musical realms. The image of the wave itself provides another point of connection. Its continuous movement, its ability to unfold, reform, and renew itself endlessly, evokes the distinctive dynamism of Philip Glass’s music, characterized by an uninterrupted flow and a constantly evolving energy. The association of Jean-Michel Othoniel’s artwork with Philip Glass’s music highlights the subtle and poetic correspondences that connect these two artistic worlds.
