Orphée depicts a journey from darkness into light, inspired by the various versions of the ancient myth of Orpheus, from Ovid to Cocteau. This multi-layered narrative about death, rebirth, transformation and the transience of memory can also be interpreted as a metaphor for artistic creativity. Orphée offers a diverse soundscape: acoustic instruments are featured both as soloists and in ensembles, combined with electronics and the mysterious sounds of shortwave ‘number transmitters’. It draws on many facets of his previous works and incorporates music for solo cello, organ, string quartet, string orchestra and a cappella vocals.
Ten years after its debut, the celebrated Album Orphée is being released for the first time on Crystal Clear Vinyl.
