On pianist Víkingur Ólafsson's new and deeply personal album, "From Afar," his Icelandic roots are clearly palpable. It's a tribute to György Kurtag, one of his favorite composers. A meeting with him opened up a new perspective on life and music, resulting in this album. Víkingur recorded all the music on both a grand piano and an upright piano, and the album features both versions, each with its own unique timbre. Featuring music by Kurtag, Adès, Bach, Brahms, Birgisson, Kaldalóns, Mozart, and Schumann.
