Herman van Veen's live album, recorded in October 2022 at the Royal Theatre Carré in Amsterdam during the "Dat Kun Je Wel Zien" tour. It's named after his 2021 album.
At times, the album's tone is delightfully nostalgic, at others deeply current. The opening track, "Onderaan De Dijk," written by Thé Lau of The Scene, who died in 2015, is moving. Other highlights include "Look At Me" (John Lennon), "Moenie Weggaan Nie"—a South African version of "Ne Me Quitte Pas" (Jacques Brel), and "Als Het Goed Is" (Als Het Goed Is) (lyrics by Judith Herzberg).
This is supplemented by songs "Kwijt" and "Mazzel" from his 2021 album, and of course, there's also room for a number of old hits like "Zo Vrolijk" (So Happy) and the Leonard Cohen cover "Suzanne." Incidentally, the latter was also the song that opened his 1971 double LP Carré/Amsterdam. Herman van Veen was accompanied during the performances by Jannemien Cnossen, Kees Dijkstra, and Edith Leerkes. "They are virtuosos, both solo and in their ensembles," according to de Volkskrant. Herman van Veen proves that a 200th album can still be considered an essential one.
