Tragedy struck in 1977, when flying to a gig in Baton Rouge, Ronnie Van Zant, Steve Gaines and his sister back-up singer Cassie Gaines as well as their road manager perish in the crash, and leaving the surviving band members severely injured. However he band’s story didn’t end, rising again a decade later, Lynyrd Skynyrd entered a new era with fresh energy, new members, and a renewed commitment to honoring the legacy of those they lost. Albums, tours, and live recordings followed, proving that the Skynyrd spirit is unbreakable.
