Shawn Mendes

Shawn Mendes is a young Canadian who conquered the world in just a few years as a singer, composer, model and widely adored pop star.

Shawn Mendes is a child of his time and rose to fame thanks to social media before a major record label was even involved. In 2012, at ^14, he began covering songs and uploading videos to YouTube, single-handedly creating an audience of millions. His version of Justin Bieber's "As Long As You Love Me" in particular garnered countless views. Naturally, a record label came calling, and in 2014, his first single, "Life Of The Party," was released, which, thanks in part to his own preparatory work, became a huge hit.

Preceded by an EP, his debut album, Handwritten, was released in 2015 and was a resounding success. It debuted at number one on the US album chart, to name just one example. Its success was easily explained: a handsome guy, good songs, and a fresh pop sound that clearly reflected his fandom of John Mayer, Justin Timberlake, and Ed Sheeran. Yet, even at a young age, he put his own unique spin on those influences.

In 2016, the album Illuminate followed, featuring new hits like "Treat You Better" and "There's Nothing Holdin' Me Back." In the years that followed, world tours followed in rapid succession, as did his hits. His self-titled third album, released in 2018, again debuted at number one on several album charts. In 2019, the hit singles "If I Can't Have You" and the duet "Señorita," recorded with his girlfriend Camila Cabello, followed.

In recent years, Shawn Mendes has also enjoyed other successes. He has been the face of campaigns for both Emporio Armani and Calvin Klein. The singer has also been involved with various charities, for which he recorded several songs, including "Under Pressure," a cover of a Queen song. He's barely out of his teens, but he's already had a whole life behind him. At the same time, it's clear that we'll be hearing a lot more from Shawn Mendes in the coming years.
