Sabrina Carpenter
Born on May 11, 1999, Sabrina Annlynn Carpenter posted her first videos on YouTube at the age of ten, singing covers of Adele and Christina Aguilera. Rihanna was one of the other singers she admired in those early years. To foster her musical ambitions, her father built a home studio. However, the world initially discovered her as an actress. She appeared in an episode of the NBC series Law & Order and became best known for her role in the Disney series Girl Meets World, in which she starred from 2014 to 2017.
In 2014, she released her first single, "Can't Blame A Girl From Trying," co-written with singer-songwriter Meghan Trainor. A year later, her debut album, "Eyes Wide Open," was released; an album full of catchy pop and folk. While some of her colleagues started out as actresses and eventually transitioned to music, Sabrina Carpenter continued acting. She has appeared in films such as The Hate U Give, The Short History of the Long Road, Tall Girl, Work It, and Emergency.
Yet the albums also followed one another in quick succession: Evolution, Singular: Act I, Singular: Act II, Emails I Can't Send, and Short n' Sweet. Sabrina Carpenter describes the latter two as her "big girl" albums, created with complete creative freedom. The title of the latter refers to its relatively short playing time and the theme of its lyrics: a look back at her often brief romances. In 2023, Sabrina Carpenter announced she would be the opening act for part of Taylor Swift's world tour. A dream come true, she calls it. To mark the occasion, she recorded Taylor Swift's "I Knew You Were Trouble." In September 2024, another dream came true when, to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Christina Aguilera's debut, she sang the duet "What A Girl Wants" with her childhood hero.
