Ludovico Einaudi may be the most streamed classical artist in the world, but as an individual, he retains an eternal sense of mystery. His album, The Summer Portraits, in which he candidly reflects on his own childhood holidays, came as a surprise. It marked a lush return to full-band textures in the style of In A Time Lapse (2013); the result of a flood of personal memories, triggered by sun, summer, family holidays, and a recent move back to Turin, his childhood city. His son, Leo Einaudi, has skillfully reworked several tracks from The Summer Portraits album, infusing them with his own summer memories, fresh nuances, and rich textures.
