Lady Gaga
As a singer, musician, actress, trendsetter and outspoken role model, Lady Gaga became one of the biggest stars of our time.
Lady Gaga is a star who always manages to surprise. In that respect, she reminds us of one of her greatest role models: Madonna. Just as in the eighties and nineties it was always a matter of waiting to see how that singer's next masterstroke would unfold, Lady Gaga also manages to surprise her fans time and again. If not with her musical direction, then with her latest outfits or the statements she makes. An icon of our time, in more ways than one.
After high school, Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, born in 1986, initially attended art school. Music quickly demanded so much of her time and creativity that she dropped out. Her early performances had already garnered a lot of attention when she released The Fame in 2008, a debut that would be re-released a year later as The Fame Monster. The album made Lady Gaga—who took her name from Queen's song "Radio Ga Ga"—an instant star.
There was much admiration for the refined electro-pop of her debut, as well as her remarkably mature vocals. Even the biggest skeptics quickly acknowledged that Lady Gaga was a true musician, firmly in control of her style and songs. However, she also owed her meteoric rise to fame to her striking appearance. Frenzied, provocative, and colorful. "Just Dance" and "Pokerface" yielded her worldwide hits. For months, Lady Gaga was constantly on the front pages of the newspapers, sometimes making headlines for one of her statements, other times for a provocative outfit.
She effortlessly continued her success with Born This Way (2011) and Artpop (2013). She then surprised her fans with the traditional jazz album Cheek To Cheek (2014), on which she sang beautiful duets with crooner Tony Bennett. For her own Joanne (2016), she opted for a more subdued pop sound. Meanwhile, Lady Gaga also became active in other fields. Her roles in the series American Horror Story: Hotel (2015-2016) and the film A Star Is Born (2018) made it clear that she also had a great actress within her. She also made a significant contribution to the soundtrack of the latter film.
In recent years, Lady Gaga has also championed equal rights for the LGBTQ+ community and, through her own Born This Way Foundation, is committed to empowering young people facing marginalization. In 2018 and 2019, she resided in Las Vegas, where she performed two shows in succession: the theatrical Lady Gaga Enigma and the more understated Jazz and Piano—contrasting events that further underscored the multifaceted nature of this American phenomenon.
