Max Richter | Voices Standard 2LP
More than ten years after the project's inception, groundbreaking composer Max Richter announces the release of VOICES—a major new project inspired by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. At a time of dramatic global change, VOICES offers a musical message of hope. Max Richter invited people from around the world to be part of this piece. Readings from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights were woven into the music, which features an "inverted" orchestra. He received hundreds of submissions from over 70 countries. These readings form the aural landscape through which the music flows. They are the VOICES of the title. Max Richter explains that he loves the idea of a piece of music as a place for reflection, and it's clear that we all need to reflect right now. We live in incredibly challenging times, and as we look around at the world we've created for ourselves, it's easy to feel hopeless or angry. But the problems we face are of our own making, so the solutions are within our grasp, and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights offers us a way forward. While not a perfect document, the Declaration does represent an inspiring vision for the possibility of a better and kinder world.
