Lucas and Arthur have been playing Francis Poulenc's Double Concerto since they were teenagers. For their fifth album for Deutsche Grammophon, they made a recording of it, recorded live during concerts at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. The conductor is Poulenc expert Stéphane Denève. "Lucas and Arthur have a tremendous amount of experience with this concerto," he says. "They are very open to the music and have found total rhythmic freedom. Moreover, they have a wonderfully light and sparkling playing that perfectly suits this French music." The boys love this concerto. "It's special because so much is happening simultaneously, both in the orchestral and piano parts. Poulenc was a master at composing all those different moods and colors," says Arthur. The recording makes it abundantly clear that the soloists, orchestra, and conductor inspire each other.
