Kiss
KISS formed in 1973 in New York. The original, classic lineup consisted of singer-guitarist Paul Stanley, singer-bassist Gene Simmons, singer-guitarist Ace Frehley, and singer-drummer Peter Criss. From day one, success and making money were the top priorities. The band realized that it was important to distinguish themselves from the many other ambitious groups.
The quartet consistently performed with painted faces, dressed in futuristic suits. Explosives, fireworks, and smoke machines complemented the shows. Their first albums, "KISS," "Hotter Than Hell," and "Dressed To Kill," sold below expectations, but everything changed in 1975 with the release of their iconic live album, "Alive!". Overnight, KISS became a global act. They released albums like "Destroyer," "Rock and Roll Over," and "Love Gun." Thanks to a flirtation with the disco craze, they even reached a wide pop audience in 1979 with the hit "I Was Made For Lovin' You," from Dynasty.
In the eighties, the makeup and suits disappeared. After the MTV-produced KISS Unplugged, the original lineup reunited in 1996 for new world tours. In 1998, a new studio album was even released, Psycho Circus. After that, the band focused primarily on lucrative tours, but with the release of a vast amount of merchandise and a DVD series called KISSOLOGY, the band's original principles were never lost.
A farewell tour was announced in 2018, which led to the release of the compilation Kissworld – The Best Of KISS in early 2019. It brought KISS to the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam for one final show on June 25th, once again drawing heavily from classic albums like KISS, Destroyer, Hotter Than Hell, Dynasty, and Creatures Of The Night.
