Kevin
Kevin is a rapper who emerged from Rotterdam's thriving hip-hop scene. His first tracks were released through the local label Rotterdam Airlines. From the beginning of his career, he collaborated extensively with other rappers, such as Josylvio, Sevn Alias, and Jason Futuristic. In 2016, he released his first solo single, "Op De Block," which he created with Emms of Broederliefde. Kevin distinguishes himself with his narrative lyrics and sharp observations, which are also evident in the tracks that followed his debut.
Kevin was born Kevin de Gier on April 19, 1994, in Rotterdam. He was an above-average footballer and for a while, his future seemed to lie with local club Excelsior. Ultimately, music won out. It quickly proved to be a good decision. "Op de Block" received a million views on YouTube. An appearance on BNN's 101Barz program was a huge success. It was a promise that was fulfilled with his first EP, "Kleine Versnelling."
In 2018, his debut album, "Lenten," was released, featuring guest appearances from Lil' Kleine and Chivv, among others. Kevin has since become a major player in the Dutch hip-hop world. His debut reached number one in the Album Top 100, as did his follow-up, "Vrij," released a year later. This success earned Kevin a contract with Noah's Ark in 2020, where he released his subsequent albums: Animal Stories (2020), Grote Versnelling (2021), Plenty Bars (2022), and Wonderland (2023). His first single for the new record label is an ode to a characteristic part of Rotterdam: Gordelweg. As well-known as he has become, his hometown is never far away.
