Kali Uchis
Kali Uchis is a versatile singer: her songs blend influences from reggae, pop, electronica, R&B, and Latin music. She was born on July 17, 1994, in Alexandria, Georgia, to an American mother and a Colombian father. She grew up bilingual, which later served her well as a singer. She releases albums in both Spanish and English.
Born Karly Marina Loaiz, Kali Uchis proved to be very creative from a young age. She writes poetry, is a promising photographer, and quickly emerged as a talented singer and songwriter. Later, she reveals in interviews that she draws inspiration from diverse singers such as Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Selena, Shakira, Celia Cruz, La Lupe, and Mariah Carey. Her stage name is derived from a nickname someone once gave her: Karluchis. As early as 2015, she toured as the opening act for Leon Bridges. Two years later, Kali Uchis made a significant contribution to the album "Humanz" by the Gorillaz collective.
After making a name for herself with the EP "Por Vida," she broke through in 2018 with her debut album, "Isolation." The powerful songs, thought-provoking lyrics, and agile voice immediately earned Kali Uchis numerous positive reviews, with corresponding sales figures. That same year, she opened for Lala Del Rey. It was a flying start, followed by her Spanish-language album, "Sin Miedo (Del Amor Y Otros Demonios)" (2020). It was another huge success, thanks in part to the single "Telepatía." The lighthearted, beautiful song reached a huge audience, particularly through TikTok. "Red Moon In Venus" (2023) is an English-language album, while "Orquídeas" (2024) marks her return to her Latin roots. A deluxe, expanded edition of the latter, "Orquídeas Parte 2" (2024), has since been released.
