Glass Animals
The story goes that Glass Animals came up with the band name by combining two words randomly picked from a dictionary. It's a happy coincidence, as they perfectly represent both the fragile and powerful sides of the band's sound. Since forming in 2010, Glass Animals has been creating a robust alternative rock and electronic music, while also incorporating influences from hip-hop, soul, and '60s pop.
Glass Animals' sound is also shaped by the group's history. The seed for the British band was sown when Dave Bayley (vocals, guitar, keyboards, drums) and Drew MacFarlane (guitar, keyboards) met in high school. They initially became friends after discovering they had both spent part of their childhood in America. Their bond was further strengthened when they both revealed themselves to be music lovers and aspired to become artists. They enjoy alternative groups like Radiohead and The Strokes, but also enjoy listening to Missy Elliott, Dr. Dre, and Eminem—artists who were omnipresent in their American childhoods. They also adore the classic pop and soul of The Beach Boys, The Beatles, Otis Redding, and Nina Simone.
They formed the band Glass Animals, featuring Edmund Irwin-Singer (bass, keyboards) and Joe Seaward (drums). Things moved quickly after that. The young band performed extensively and released several singles. In 2014, their debut album, "Zaba," was released, featuring the hit "Gooey." It was an instant success, including in America, where the album reached platinum status. Catchy songs, Dave Bayley's beautiful vocals, and a highly varied sound—Glass Animals' success is easy to explain. That same year, the band went on tour, including in America.
The success story continues with the albums "How To Be A Human Being" (2016) and "Dreamland" (2020). The single "Heatwaves" becomes a huge hit, thanks in part to TikTok. In the lead-up to the album's release, fans can download parts of the album, such as song clips and artwork, from a dedicated website. It's a personal album on which Dave Bayley incorporates audio clips from home videos from his youth. In interviews, he even refers to it as a musical autobiography. In the summer of 2024, "I Love You So F…ing Much," Glass Animals' fourth album, will be released. Coping with fame is the subject of several lyrics, while the single "Creatures In Heaven" addresses our place in the universe. These are compelling themes, once again packaged in powerful songs. Glass Animals will perform many of these during the 2024 Tour Of The Earth.
