Cal Tjader – The Prophet (Verve Vault Series LP)
Recorded in 1968 and originally released on Verve, The Prophet captures legendary vibraphonist Cal Tjader at a pivotal moment in his career. Expanding beyond his signature Latin jazz foundation, the album embraces richer orchestration and sophisticated arrangements while retaining the rhythmic warmth and melodic elegance that made Tjader one of the genre's defining artists. Produced by Esmond Edwards and arranged by Don Sebesky, the album features an outstanding ensemble including João Donato, Hubert Laws, Red Mitchell, and Ed Thigpen.
This Verve Vault Series edition is mastered by Ryan K. Smith directly from the original analogue tapes (AAA) and pressed on 180-gram vinyl at Optimal. Featuring standout tracks including "The Prophet," "Warm Song," "Aquarius," "Souled Out," "Tema Teimoso," and "The Loner," this premium reissue faithfully restores one of Cal Tjader's most adventurous and beautifully crafted recordings.
