In the fifty years since Shostakovich's death on August 9, 1975, his status has only continued to grow, and he is now recognized as one of the greatest composers of the twentieth century. Moreover, his relationship with the Soviet regime remains fascinating. Was he a loyal servant or a bitter dissident? For Boston Symphony Orchestra Music Director Andris Nelsons, who experienced the Soviet system firsthand growing up in Latvia and has spent much of his career studying and conducting Shostakovich's music, these questions are irrelevant: The greatness of his music lies beyond politics. It resonates with people whether they know the era in which he lived or not.

Fenomenale componist, fenomenaal orkest, fenomenale dirigent!

Een box met daarin álle symfonieën van Dmitri Sjostakovitsj, uitgevoerd door een fantastisch orkest o.l.v. een geweldige dirigent, zijn piano-, cello- en vioolconcerten, uitgevoerd door solisten van absolute wereld klasse, en als kers op de taart ook nog eens een fantastische uitvoering van Sjostakovitsj' vroege meesterwerk Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District.
