Naast de Cellosonate en het Tweede Celloconcert van Dmitri Sjostakovitsj, speelt cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason op dit album ook de Cellosonate van Benjamin Britten. Beide sonates nam hij op met zijn zus en frequente duopartner Isata Kanneh-Mason. Sjostakovitsj schreef zijn celloconcert voor de beroemde cellist Mstislav Rostropovitsj, met wie hij ook een wederzijdse vriendschap deelde met Britten. De sonates op dit album zijn opgenomen in Aldeburgh, in dezelfde zaal waar Rostropovich en Britten in 1968 samen – eveneens voor Decca Classics - diens Cellosonate opnamen. Dit was de opname waardoor Sheku verliefd werd op het werk.
