The Black Sessions Revealed (Live 2LP)

Released in 2001, Reveal marked a new chapter for R.E.M. The band's twelfth studio album—and second following Bill Berry's departure—embraced shimmering guitars, lush keyboards, electronic textures, and West Coast influences, expanding the group's sonic palette while retaining its signature songwriting.

Produced by longtime collaborator Pat McCarthy alongside the band, Reveal debuted at No. 6 on the Billboard 200, reached No. 1 in the UK, Canada, Norway, and several other international markets, and earned Gold certification from the RIAA.

The album is anchored by "Imitation of Life," an international Top 10 hit that received extensive radio and MTV support, alongside Michel Gondry's acclaimed one-take music video. Other standout tracks include "All the Way to Reno (You're Gonna Be a Star)," "I'll Take the Rain," and "Beat a Drum."

Blending alternative rock with chamber pop, dream pop, psychedelic pop, electronic textures, and folk influences, Reveal occupies a distinct place within R.E.M.'s catalog. Its layered production and melodic songwriting reflect the band's continued musical evolution in the early 2000s.

A commercially successful international release, Reveal remains a key entry in R.E.M.'s later catalog, combining one of the band's best-known 21st-century singles with a collection of songs that continue to resonate with audiences worldwide.
