Without the band of Vreemde Kostgangers, Boudewijn de Groot, Henny Vrienten, and George Kooymans, our musical landscape wouldn't be the same. All three have an unparalleled influence on Dutch pop music. De Groot as the Netherlands' most iconic singer-songwriter, Vrienten as the frontman of Doe Maar, the biggest Dutch-language band ever, and Kooymans as the guitarist of our most successful rock band: Golden Earring. Together, these gentlemen have toured Dutch theaters in recent months as Vreemde Kostgangers, and now an album from this supergroup is on the way.
Their paths crossed often, but a collaboration never materialized. That is, until they formed a special band for Golden Earring drummer Cesar Zuiderwijk's birthday party. This spontaneous performance left them wanting more, and the band decided to do something together. That "something" became a theater tour, and Vreemde Kostgangers were born. New songs were written, theaters sold out, and the joy of making music radiated from the stage with an almost boyish enthusiasm.
Just before the holidays in 2016, the tour concluded with a recording session at the legendary Wisseloord Studios in Hilversum. The Vreemde Kostgangers played a special set of new songs for a small audience, resulting in this album; the debut of what can rightly be called a supergroup.
