Motivated by a desire\r\nto reconnect with the raw, acoustic beginnings of his songwriting, Smith\r\nset out to create something more intimate and personal, away from the\r\ncollaborative nature of his band projects.\r\nInitially, he attempted to shape these songs with long-time collaborator\r\nAndy Burrows but ultimately decided to take a more solitary path,\r\nenlisting producer Iain Archer instead. Together, they crafted a record\r\nbuilt around emotional honesty, acoustic textures, and themes of\r\nconnection, memory, and resilience. The opening track, ‘Deep Dive’,\r\nbecame the album’s emotional anchor, setting a tone of gentle hope in\r\nthe face of loneliness.\r\nThroughout the album, Smith balances stripped-back arrangements\r\nwith cinematic flourishes, creating a dynamic range—from the\r\nminimalist ache of ‘Broken Time’ to the sweeping drama of ‘Life Is For\r\nLiving’. Despite his initial goal of solo authorship, Smith found deep\r\ncreative synergy with Archer, shaping songs through mutual\r\nexperimentation.\r\nTracks like ‘Lights Of New York City’ evoke nostalgic longing, while\r\n‘Northern Line’ and ‘How Many Times’ reflect on friendships and past\r\nexperiences. The album closes with ‘Saturday’, a bittersweet snapshot of\r\nfleeting intimacy. Though marked by melancholy, the record ultimately\r\nresonates with hope—highlighting Smith’s evolution as a songwriter\r\nand his yearning to create music that reflects the essence of who he is.","brand":"Platenzaak","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":58257790370179,"sku":"5400863189389","price":20.99,"currency_code":"EUR","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/0273\/8923\/1139\/files\/Unknown_46722792-1a2c-40e0-80c3-8677179f4702.webp?v=1783945463","url":"https:\/\/www.platenzaak.nl\/en\/products\/there-is-nothing-in-the-dark-that-isn-t-there-in-the-light-cd","provider":"Platenzaak.nl","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
