With the release of her fourteenth album, the singer explores new territory. Titled Deena & Jim, the album features a rich orchestral sound with arrangements by Martin Gjerstad, Anouk's longtime writing partner. The 12 compositions, along with their interludes, intros, and outros, were performed by the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra. "This album is a love letter to those who are desperate… I hope some of my words and music will touch your heart." In the song "From The Bottom To The Top," Anouk speaks directly to the listener. It's from her new album, "Deena & Jim," an intimate, moving album in an era of fleeting streaming and social media hits. She doesn't want to call it a concept album, but the twelve songs are meant to be listened to in one sitting. Anouk wanted to create a cinematic album with "Deena & Jim." "I love film and film music. I often go to the cinema in the morning, when it's nice and quiet. I wanted this album to have the feel of an epic film. Time should disappear for a moment when you listen to it." Deena & Jim are the protagonists, created by Anouk, in a feature-length life story. Many will recognize themselves in the characters, because everyone has been a Deena or a Jim at some point. Even Anouk herself. The whole record is incredibly relatable; the things I sing about are also happening in the relationships around me. It teaches you not to take anything for granted. I think a lot of people can find hope in this record. Because you can always address what's bothering you. And you shouldn't wait too long to do so. The cover couldn't be more fitting than a kiss between Anouk and her true love, Dominique.
