Het album met tijdloze hits als Alive, Jeremy en Even Flow zorgde ervoor dat de band rond zanger Eddie Vedder in een klap een van de boegbeelden van de grunge uitgroeide. Het was een generatie rockbands die vanuit Seattle de wereld veroverde met een ongepolijste, alternatieve rocksound. Het succesverhaal kreeg dan ook een uitstekend vervolg met albums als Vs. \u003c\/span\u003e(1993), Vitalogy (1994), No Code (1996) en Yield (1998). \u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eIn 1995 begeleidde Pearl Jam de Canadese legende Neil Young op zijn album Mirror Ball. Een logische samenwerking, aangezien de zanger-gitarist als een van de aardsvaders van de grunge werd beschouwd. In 2009 werd het iconische debuut Ten opnieuw uitgegeven, waarbij het publiek uit vier verschillende configuraties kon kiezen. Hoewel recente albums met relatief lange tussenpozen verschijnen, weet Pearl Jam moeiteloos in beeld te blijven. De band is veel op tournee, de leden zijn betrokken bij verschillende goede doelen en vooral zanger Eddie Vedder reageert regelmatig op actuele politieke kwesties. Grunge als fenomeen mag ondertussen een museumstuk geworden zijn, het daaruit voortgekomen Pearl Jam is nog springlevend. Het grootste deel van de klassieke bezetting overleefde dan ook de vele pieken en dalen: Eddie Vedder (zang, gitaar), Mike McCready (gitaar), Stone Gossard (gitaar) and Jeff Ament (bas) and Matt Cameron (drums).
